Purpose

This fund has been established to create long-term sustainable resources to promote the quality of community and cultural life in the East Bay. The focus is on the North Oakland / South Berkeley neighborhood around the Ashby BART Station known as the Ashby Arts District.

We are seek to support three key activities.

  1. New Facilities Developments & Operations
  2. Community-wide accessibility to free and low fee programs & events
  3. Public Art & Collaborations
New Community & Cultural Arts Center

The lead project is the development of a new 10,000 sq ft community facility at the current site of Epic Arts Studios at 1923 Ashby Ave. The property has been secured, the preliminary architectural plan is in place. The City of Berkeley planing Department has been engaged in the preliminary design review and planning process since planning process began in 2005 with approval anticipated in 1st the quarter on 2008.

Our vision is a truly inclusive, family-oriented, culturally diverse and multi-generational arts center that engages, inspires and enhances the quality of life for all who desire to participate. Our intention is that this center serves as an inspired model for community-centered development and provides an artistic and cultural legacy for generations to come.

This campaign represents the culmination of 10 years of planning, community development and relationship building. In that time we have established a robust social and political base, fined tuned our objectives, and engaged a significant audience that will help ensure the success of this endeavor. Through purposeful contributions, endowment and investments we can realize a truly accessible vision and capitalize on this exciting opportunity to create something extraordinary.
